Meet the Blogger: Vanessa Mae

The Lady Behind the Blog

About Me

Here we are, my first post! Since this is a life blog, why not start off with getting to know the blogger, or should I say blogette? For starters, if you haven't figured it out, my name is Vanessa Mae. I'm a 23-year-old lady living in a small town in the Bay Area of the oh, so lovely state of California. I'm a small town girl who attended private, Catholic school my whole life, which included an all girls high school (without a brother school). Before you ask, no, I do not have any regrets about attending an all girls high school. I just graduated this past May with my Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy. As of now, I am studying for my National Board Exam, but I won't bore you with all the details of that; I'm just hoping to pass and find a job ASAP!
Beyond work and academics, I enjoy reading, cooking, baking, playing with my puppy, smoking hookah, going on walks/runs, attending events at museums, playing volleyball, shopping, makeup, planning my life on Pinterest, and being completely lazy on Sundays. For me, lazy Sundays include comfortable lounge wear all day, messy buns, and Netflix marathons; pizza is always a plus on these fine days. Now, I can't spend these lazy days all by myself (I mean, yes, I technically can, but they're so much better when someone's being lazy with you). So, that takes us to the next section...

Love Life

This is my fiance, Alejandro. We met in October of 2006 when a mutual friend invited him to one of my volleyball games. The only thing we said to each other when we met was, "Hi." That's it, nothing else. We didn't acknowledge each other the rest of the time. We simply greeted each other and went our separate ways to speak to our other friends. I thought that that was it. I didn't expect or plan to hear from him again. However, when I was on the phone with our mutual friend that night, I asked him, "What was the name of your friend you introduced me to today?" All I wanted was a name because I had simply forgotten, but this is what I got, "Oh, Alejandro. Here, let me conference call him." Before I could decline, our friend had already switched to the other line to conference him in. So, from that point forward, Alejandro and I began talking and getting to know each other, and we just "clicked," for lack of a better word.
We started talking every day, getting to know each other more and more. I was 15, he had just turned 17. I had never had a boyfriend, and he had just broken up with his last girlfriend. Neither one of us had thought of each other "in that way" at the time. We just thought that the other person was really cool and considered each other best friends. I'd talk to him about guys I was talking to while he'd tell me about the girls he was interested in. In fact, he even asked me about one of my friends I went to school with! I even tried making it happen, but the girl was interested in someone else. Eventually, as time went on, we started seeing each other as more than just best friends, but neither one of us wanted to admit it. The reason? We didn't want to ruin the great relationship we already had with each other. We decided to take a chance on February 26, 2007 though. Risky and scary, yes, but totally worth it! Of course, we had our ups and downs just like any other couple, but we did not give up (even though it seemed as if we had a huge argument once a month for three consecutive years). So, here we are now, finally engaged as of March 2, 2014, but we don't plan on getting married until February 26, 2017, which marks our 10 anniversary of being together. It may still be quite a way from now, but we've already been "pre-planning" via Pinterest.

Pomchi Mommy

If you don't know what a Pomchi is, get out! Just kidding! I'm obviously biased, but when you mix a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua, you get one cute, bundle of joy. This is our 10-month-old Pomchi, Meeko. For you Disney fanatics out there, yes, I named him after the raccoon in Pocahontas. Meeko's big personality brings so much joy to my heart. When I was living in San Diego for internships, Meeko's company was enough to keep me sane. Alejandro couldn't move down with me due to school, so Meeko was the next best thing. It was difficult training him in the beginning, but he's gotten so much better. And, thank goodness he's not as yappy as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians! That would just drive me crazy. He's such a loving and friendly puppy, and he's my little cuddle bug. Don't worry, I'm not one of those crazy dog ladies who overly obsesses over dogs. Yes, I may spoil him every now and then, but you won't find me pushing him in a stroller.

With All That Said...

That's pretty much me in a nutshell. So, those are some of the things you can expect to see here on my blog. If you have anything specific you'd like me to write about, just let me know. I'd love to share my experiences, insights, and opinions. In addition, I can't wait to get to know you more! Happy Saturday, loves! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
In words, with love,
Vanessa Mae
